When your boyfriend of twelve years sends you on a girls’ trip, you don’t expect to come home to an empty townhome, three days left on the lease, and a breakup note that barely qualifies as a Post-it.

Forty-something Fable Pierce always suspected commitment wasn’t her ex’s strong suit, but she never imagined he’d vanish overnight and leave her feeling like the world’s biggest fool. With her family ready to serve up a steaming we told you so, she flees to the one person who’s never judged her: Aunt Twila, owner of a charming old bookstore tucked deep in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Fable expects quiet days with hot tea and paperback novels.

Instead, the bookstore greets her like it’s alive—shifting shelves, sighing softly, and settling around her as if it’s been waiting. Odd parcels arrive at strange hours, and the townspeople watch her with a curious warmth that borders on recognition.

And Aunt Twila? She retires so fast Fable swears she hears tires squeal.

Suddenly, Fable is the accidental caretaker of a very enchanted bookstore, the overwhelmed recipient of globe-trotting parcels, and quite possibly the Northwoods’ newest midlife witch...a role she definitely did not apply for.

Then the police chief steps into the picture. Steady, sharp-eyed, and inconveniently handsome, he wants to know why peculiar deliveries keep landing on Fable’s doorstep. He has no idea magic exists in his quiet lakeside town… and Fable has no idea how she’s supposed to hide it, especially as the parcels start acting up, the bookstore grows moody, and the Northwoods hums with deep, old enchantments that respond to her presence.

But everything changes when she discovers an old leather-bound book tucked into a shelf that certainly wasn’t there yesterday…
a book that shouldn’t exist,

a book that knows her name,

a book that whispers the moment she opens it.

If Fable wants a true second chance, she’ll have to follow the magic awakening at her fingertips—before the oddities grow bolder, the bookstore chooses someone else entirely, and the ever-curious police chief wanders a little too close to a secret this cozy town has been guarding for far too long.

Welcome to Bookmarks & Broomsticks: A Magical Midlife Witch

When forty-something Fable Pierce flees heartbreak and humiliation for her aunt’s sleepy Northwoods town, she expects peace, quiet, and maybe a mild identity crisis.

What she doesn’t expect is magic, much less magic with opinions.

Deep in the Wisconsin woods sits an enchanted bookstore that shifts its shelves, whispers secrets, and chooses its own keeper. And it chooses Fable—ready or not. Soon she’s juggling mysterious globe-trotting parcels, a mischievous new magic of her own, and a town whose residents seem far too relieved she’s finally arrived.

But Fable’s not alone. A ragtag found family forms around her, including a snarky cat familiar, a mystical axolotl with a talent for inconvenient wisdom, and a growing collection of feisty broomsticks that behave more like excitable pets than transportation.

Add in an inconveniently handsome police chief who knows nothing about magic and a town bursting with secrets, and Fable’s fresh start becomes far more complicated and far more magical than she imagined.
